Mayor in Albania; the position of mayor has often been in the spotlight due to its great influence on local government and the administration of public funds. Although this position is supposed to represent urban development and the interests of citizens, many mayors have been the subject of investigations and accusations of corruption, abuse of office, money laundering, and links to criminal groups .
SPAK investigations have led to the arrests and prosecutions of several former mayors, including important figures in local politics such as Erion Veliaj, Vangjush Dako, Jorgo Goro, Eduard Duro and other local government leaders . Several cases have exposed manipulation of public tenders, involvement in construction scandals, mismanagement of reconstruction funds and vote buying .
