10 implications of how the closure of Tik Tok violates freedom of expression

1. The platform is not a personal service but a collective and community one. In this case, everyone is being violated without an offender being identified, closing the gap and social connections that have been created.

2. The platform serves as a conduit for ideas, thoughts, and opinions, therefore it has high symbolic value.

3. Users have been contributing to this platform for years, they will be denied access to their long-standing creative and intellectual contributions.

4. The platform’s space is structured with the logic of profiles of specific individuals, closing it compromises the identity and personal privacy of hundreds of thousands of users.

5. There are many individuals who have no other channel for public engagement, community collective, closing the platform means isolation.

6. Many people have user generated products on their accounts, that content will disappear from the eyes of potential audiences.

7. Many people use the platform as their only economic source, they are denied the right to express their profitable talent. Let’s not forget that many of the accounts are not even individuals but are businesses, abstract presences that promote their activity. In fact, Albania does this by promoting its image.

8. Internet access, if the platform is the only window where a user has channeled all contacts, closing it means denying internet access, not simply closing a channel.

9. The multifunctionality of the platform as an infrastructure where endless functions are performed and services are received, the closure of which could make the lives of many users dysfunctional.

10. Finally, and very importantly: these spaces, in terms of size and dynamics, are genuine public spheres, and their closure destroys a social and political dimension.

It is clear that everything is being done to destroy the election campaigns of political opponents who have found a missing window there.

For me, interventions need to be strong, but they require prudence.

P.S. By the way, I don’t have an account on the platform yet, but that doesn’t stop me from seeing where freedom of expression is being violated.
