Residents of Tragjas, Orikum and Dukat protested this Monday in front of the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPAK), denouncing the alienation of their properties.
Through a complaint submitted to SPAK, the residents and their lawyer, Arben Llangozi, claim that government officials, businessmen, and other individuals inside and outside the country are involved in the property alienation scheme.
According to lawyer Llangozi, suspicions extend to American citizens, who, according to the report, may have played a role in money laundering and the relocation of illegally obtained assets.
“The suspicion that American citizens are also part of this group makes the situation even more complicated, as this shows that criminal activity has no territorial boundaries. The assets obtained with forged documents may have been used to launder the proceeds of crime in international financial systems,” the complaint states.
According to residents, the suspected group used sophisticated methods to conceal the origin of the funds, including shell companies, suspicious transactions and investments disguised as legitimate. The document filed with SPAK states that, due to the involvement of foreign individuals, the investigation should be extended to other jurisdictions.
The complaint requests that US authorities, including the FBI and other federal agencies, be involved in verifying bank accounts, companies, investments and electronic communications that may be related to the case.
“Expanding the investigation to the US is necessary to identify the full network, the assets acquired abroad, and to stop the flow of illicit money. Only through such a detailed investigation can the entire mechanism be revealed and those responsible be punished,” the complaint states, among other things.
